About Us

Since 1975, the Day Studio has taught professional high-end painted finishes, murals and color and maintains the highest standards of technical and creative artistry. In the 1980's the Day Studio began teaching fractal geometry as part of the difficult but often ignored design aspect of instruction. Fractal geometry is Nature's way of seeing and measuring and Euclidian geometry is Man's way. Fractal proportions guarantee natural balance and realistic beauty. Discovered in 1973, fractals have revolutionized learning in all fields especially art and interior design. By training the eye to see spatially, you learn to intentionally create hidden fractal chains and mathematical ratios in a finish or interior. Mastering the simple Laws of Design and Color guarantees success, creates a portable skill you can always use, and gives you a competitive edge. Small classes intensify learning and open new areas of professional expertise. All the workshops provide a thorough foundation of techniques, tools, applications, mediums, paint chemistry, preparation, glaze formulas, supply sources and guidelines for bidding, contracting, presentation and selling. Now contractors, decorative artists and individuals can schedule individually planned one day training workshops during non-teaching periods.

JoAnne Day studied at the Isabel O'Neil Studio in New York where she earned Journeyman status, then moved to California where she discovered Asian art and began a long journey of synthesizing Eastern and Western technique. In addition to a teaching career that has included widespread lectures and demonstrations, Ms. Day, as an expert decorative artist, has applied her talents to furniture design, commercial manufacturing, interior design, color consulting and many private commissions. Her work has appeared in Architectural Digest and been featured in many other publications. She has organized and coordinated large artist/community projects for historic restoration and public space. Her work on the Hunt Phelan Mansion in Memphis and the Enid Oklahoma Symphony Center is an example of how artists and community can work together. She is the author of many books on decorative stenciling and the Day Studio Video/DVD Library of decorative art and painted finishes. She is a chairholder in CMG (Color Marketing Group). A dynamic teacher and successful professional, Ms. Day brings together our need for beauty and individual creativity with practical skills for today.
